1. Get Some Rest

Headaches are often caused by other illnesses or lack of sleep.  Getting rest so that your body can restore itself is the easiest and most common way to get over a headache.

2. Hot or Cold Compress

Placing an ice pack or heating pad in the area where the headache is located can provide immediate relief.

3. Exercise

Regular exercise, including strength and endurance training, can prevent a headache from happening in the first place as well as alleviate a headache while it is happening.

4. Stretching

Break your work day up by stopping every 30-60 minutes to stretch and move your head and neck in circles to relieve stress and prevent tension headaches.

5. Hydration

Dehydration alone can cause headaches so be sure to prevent it by eating high water content foods such as fruit and vegetables and drinking at least 9-12 cups of water a day.

6. Massage

Give yourself a “trigger point” massage: Apply gentle, steady, rotating pressure to the painful area of your head with your index finger or thumb.

7. Hot Shower

Similar to a hot compress, jumping into a shower will help to relax your muscles, and get your blood flowing to feel better quickly!

8. Diet

Eating the following foods when experiencing a headache will help you find relief:  fruits and vegetables to stay hydrated, leafy greens to increase the level of magnesium in your body, and small amounts of caffeine.

9. Bring on the Herbs!

Feverfew and butterbur herbs reduce the inflammatory effect of chemicals that cause headaches in your body.

10. Essential Oils

The scents of four essential oils:  Lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, and rosemary will help with headaches.  Put a few drops on your chest or neck, or into a warm bath.
