Home Remedies for Pimple in EarIt’s quite painful and uncomfortable when a pimple occurs in the ear.  It can develop on any of the external ear, inside the ear canal or behind the ear. It can be developed in the same fashion as it occurs on other parts of the body (bacterial activity in the pores clogged by sebum and other impurities).

Wearing unclean helmets, using dirty earbuds, scratching with nails can also trigger a pimple in the ear. Usually, pimples in the ear disappear by themselves within 1 to 2 weeks. But, if you want to hasten the healing process then you can do it with natural home remedies.

Home Remedies for Pimple in the Ear

Here is a compilation of the best methods you can try to treat a pimple in the ear. All these methods are safe and natural to try but we recommend to patch test before trying them to know if you are allergic to the ingredient.

1. Tea Tree Oil

The potent antibacterial properties of tea tree essential oil deal with the bacteria causing pimples. Its anti-inflammatory properties reduce the swelling and speed up the healing process.

  • Take a teaspoon of tea tree oil and add it to 9 teaspoons of water.
  • Stir the mixture with a spoon.
  • Using a Q-tip, apply the solution to the pimple.
  • Repeat this remedy 2 to 3 times a day till the pimple is completely healed.
  • Store the rest of the solution in a container for future use.

Note – Always dilute the tea tree oil with water before using it topically.

2. Witch Hazel

The natural disinfectant and antiseptic properties of witch hazel clears up pimples and prevents it from recurring.

  • Dip a q-tip or cotton ball in water and squeeze out the excess water.
  • Pour a few drops of witch hazel on the wet Q-tip.
  • Wipe the pimple with it.
  • Repeat this several times a day till the pimple is gone.

3. Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide helps to clear up bacterial infections that cause pimples inside the ear. It also reduces sebum in the skin and prevents future breakout of pimples in the ear.

  • Dip a clean cotton ball in hydrogen peroxide.
  • Place it over the pimple and wait for a couple of minutes.
  • Allow the hydrogen peroxide to dry up on its own.
  • Repeat this remedy twice every day till the pimple is healed.

4. Black Tea Bag

The tannins present in tea reduce inflammation while its astringent properties dry up the pimple from inside. The warmth of hot tea bag also soothes the pimple and reduces pain.

  • Take a tea bag and dip it in hot water for 1 minute
  • Squeeze out excess water from the tea bag and place it on your ear, right on the pimple.
  • Cover your ear with a warm washcloth and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Repeat this treatment twice a day till the pimple is cured.

5. Milk

Alpha hydroxy acids present in milk unclog the pores and remove dead skin cells which in turn speeds up the healing process of the pimple.

  • Soak a cotton ball in milk and squeeze it.
  • Use this wet cotton ball to wipe the pimple on the outer ear.
  • Leave the cotton ball on the pimple for 10 minutes.
  • Clean the area with lukewarm water.
  • Repeat this remedy 3 to 4 times in a day.

6. Aloe Vera Gel

Compound saponin found in aloe vera gel has potent anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory properties which destroy the pimple-causing bacteria, reduces the inflammation and pain.

  • Extract the gel from an aloe vera leaf and collect it in a bowl.
  • Take a generous amount of this gel on your finger and apply it to the pimple.
  • Leave it on for 30 minutes and then wipe it off with a cotton ball.
  • Repeat this remedy twice in a day.

7. Apple Cider Vinegar

The anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties of apple cider vinegar kill the pimple-causing bacteria and prevent the infection from spreading. The alpha-hydroxy acid in ACV unclogs the skin pores. It also helps to reduce oil production by restoring the pH level of the skin.

  • Take 1 tablespoon each of apple cider vinegar and water in a bowl.
  • Give it a stir and dip a cotton ball in this solution.
  • Squeeze out the excess water and use this cotton ball to wipe the pimple.
  • Hold the cotton ball over the pimple for a couple of minutes and then discard it.
  • Repeat this process 3 to 4 times a day.Tomatoes are loaded with antioxidants that help to fight the bacterial infection and speed up the healing process of the pimple. The acidic nature of tomato juice dries out the pus inside the pimple, reduces swelling, pain, and redness.

Note – Opt for organic, unfiltered apple cider vinegar and make sure to dilute it before using it topically.

8. Tomato Juice

  • Blend a medium sized tomato into pulp.
  • Squeeze out the juice from the tomato and collect it in a bowl.
  • Dip a cotton ball in the tomato juice and apply it on the pimple.
  • Leave it on for 30 minutes and then clean the area with a wet cotton pad.
  • Repeat this remedy 2 to 3 times in a day.

9. Garlic

Compound allicin found in garlic has potent anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and antiseptic properties that kill the pimple-causing bacteria. The anti-inflammatory properties of garlic help to relieve the pain and swelling.

  • Crush 4 to 6 cloves of garlic and add it to 2 tablespoons of mustard oil.
  • Heat the oil on low flame till the garlic cloves turn black.
  • Strain the oil and let it cool down to a lukewarm temperature.
  • Dip a q-tip in the oil and apply it to the pimple inside the ear.
  • Repeat this remedy 2 to 3 times a day.

10. Onion

Sulfur found in onions destroys the bacteria and prevents the recurrence of pimples.

  • Peel, grate and extract juice from a small onion.
  • Apply it on the ear pimple using a cotton ball or q-tip.
  • Leave it on for 10 to 20 minutes and then wipe it off with a clean cotton ball.
  • Follow this process 2 to 3 times in a day.

11. Basil

The anti-bacterial properties of basil fight the infection-causing bacteria and help to cure pimples inside the ear.

  • Take a handful of fresh basil leaves and crush them.
  • Extract the juice from the leaves and collect in a container.
  • Dip a cotton ball in the juice and apply it to the pimple.
  • Leave it on to dry on its own.
  • Repeat the application 2 times in a day.

12. Lemon Juice

Citric acid present in lemon kills the micro-organisms that cause pimples. Astringent properties of lemon dry out the pimple from inside and prove relief from the pain.

  • Squeeze out the juice of ½ of the lemon.
  • Dip a clean q-tip in the juice and apply it to the pimple inside the ear canal.
  • Leave the application to dry on its own.
  • Reapply this remedy several times a day.

Note – People with sensitive skin should dilute the lemon juice with equal parts of water before applying it to the ear.

13. Cinnamon

Chemical cinnamaldehyde present in cinnamon kills the pimple-causing bacteria and prevents it from spreading to other parts of the ear. It also stops the recurrence of pimples.

  • Take a teaspoon each of raw honey and powdered cinnamon in a bowl.
  • Apply this mixture to the pimple using a clean q-tip.
  • Leave it on for 30 minutes and then clean it with a wet cotton pad.
  • Reapply this remedy 2 to 3 times in a day.

14. Epsom Salt Water

A saline solution prepared by mixing Epsom salt with hot water helps destroys the infection-causing bacteria and restoring healthy pH levels in the skin.

  • Add a teaspoon of Epsom salt to 1/2 cup of hot water.
  • Stir it until the salt is completely dissolved.
  • Let the solution cool down to lukewarm temperature.
  • Dip a cotton pad in this solution, squeeze out the excess water and place it on the pimple.
  • Leave it on for 10 minutes and remove it.
  • Repeat this remedy 2 to 3 times in a day.

15. Alcohol Pad

Alcohol works as a great disinfectant and antiseptic that prevents the pimple from getting infected and stops the infection from spreading to other parts of the ear.

  • Take a cotton pad and pour some rubbing alcohol on it.
  • Place this pad on the pimple and leave it on for 5 minutes.
  • Repeat this remedy 2 to 3 times a day.

Tips and Precautions to Prevent Ear Pimples:

  • Maintain proper hygiene and cleanliness. Clean your earlobes and the areas behind the ear every day with a mild soap and dry with a soft towel.
  • Avoid using oily, greasy and chemical-laden hair products that aggravate pimples in and around the ear.
  • Change your pillowcase 2 to 3 times a week.
  • Avoid touching or picking your ear frequently.
  • Never use dirty earbuds or hairpins to clean your ear.
  • Don’t scratch your ear with keys, pens, toothpicks, etc.
  • Clean your telephone receiver and headphone with an alcohol rub once a week.
  • Increase the intake of vitamin A rich foods like carrots, papaya, pumpkin, spinach.
  • Include more vitamin C rich foods in your diet such as citrus fruits, bell peppers, tomatoes, etc.
  • Drink plenty of water every day to flush out the toxins.
