Mosquito Net

There’s nothing safest than a mosquito net. Supposing that it’s intact.

There’s quite nothing like the sound of a mosquito trying to bite you… on the other side of the mesh.

Suck me if you can, mosquito!

For maximum security, spray the net with mosquito-repellent essential oils. Which are these? Find out below.

Essential Oils

Essential oils are eco-friendly and safe. There are several essential oils which have proven mosquito repellent properties, such as:

Eucalyptus

Camphor

Peppermint

Tea tree

Lavender

Citronella

Lemongrass

Lemon

Litsea cubeba

Basil

Clove

Rosemary

Geranium

Thyme

In many studies, essential oils have shown superior repellent activities compared to chemical repellents. They are regarded as safer and better options for humans, pets, and environment. Using essential oils is a great natural way to repel mosquitoes when you’re in the house and outdoors too.

How to Use Essential Oils as Mosquito Repellents

  • Dilute the essential oils in a carrier oil such as Coconut oil, Olive oil, or Grapeseed oil, 20 drops in 1 oz. of carrier oil. Either use one single oil or a combination that you fancy. Rub the diluted essential oil on the exposed areas of your skin. The secret is to reapply it every 1-2 hours, as essential oils are volatile, which means they evaporate shortly.
  • Use the mosquito repellent essential oils in an aromatherapy room diffuser.
  • Wear an essential oil jewelry, such as an essential oil diffuser necklace or an essential oil diffuser bracelets. Add drop 1-3 drops of any mosquito repellent essential oil (or a combination) directly on the dedicated felt pad inside the jewelry. It should keep the mosquitoes away from you.

Turmeric Oil Repellent

2). Add the tea and alcohol in a spray bottle.

3). Shake and spray on your body and around you as needed. Safe for pets, kids, and adult.

DIY Mosquito Repellent Candles

Making aromatherapy candles with natural ingredients is a wonderful occasion to show your crafty side. It is also a fun family activity. They are quite easy to make and they smell divine.

Mosquitoes, however, will hate them. But that’s exactly our plan, right? Perfect! Let’s do it.

To make the DIY Mosquito Repellent Essential oil Candle you will need:

  • ½ pound beeswax or soy wax
  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon any mosquito repellent essential oil
  • 2 cotton wicks with tabs
  • 2 X 6 oz. tin cans (or repurposed old candle glasses)

How to Make It:

1). First, prepare the containers where you will pour the melted composition. Place the wick in the center of the container.

2). Melt the wax and coconut oil in a double boiler or in a bain-marie on heat low.

3). When it’s completely melted add the essential oils. Mix quickly with a spatula, as the wax will start to harden.

4). Wearing a protective glove, hold the tip of the wick in place so it won’t float and carefully pour the melted composition while it’s still hot and liquid. Move quickly, otherwise, it will harden and you’ll have to start the melting process all over again.

5). In order to keep the wick vertical until the candle hardens, stick it with a glue gun onto a pencil horizontally placed on the tin can.

And that’s it. Let it sit and cool down for about 24 hours. Then, you can use them. Remember to trim the wick before lighting the candle.

If you’re not so keen on making your own candles, just buy natural, organic ones from local producers.
