Does Potato work for Dark Underarms?

  • Potatoes contain catecholase, an enzyme that gradually and gently lightens skin.
  • They have mild bleaching properties which help to lighten the skin naturally.
  • The anti-oxidants present in them helps to remove wrinkles and stretch marks

How to Use Potatoes to Lighten Dark Underarms:

Potatoes can be used alone and in combination with other natural ingredients that even out skin tone and keep skin healthy and bright. Try all the methods listed below until you find the one that works best for you.

1. Potato Slices

  • Cut 2 slices of potato, each ½ inch thick.
  • Use slices to massage each underarm for 3 minutes.
  • After massaging, wait 30 minutes.
  • Rinse with cool water and pat dry.
  • Repeat twice a day.

2. Potato Puree

  • Grate ½ of a potato then puree it in a blender.
  • Apply potato puree to underarms and leave on for 10 minutes.
  • Rinse with lukewarm water.
  • Or you can also strain potato puree through cheesecloth to extract juice and apply the juice to your underarms.
  • Repeat either method twice a day.

3. Potato Juice with Honey

Honey moisturizes and kills the bacteria that cause discoloration.

  • Grate ½ of a potato and strain through cheesecloth to extract juice.
  • Mix 2 tablespoons of potato juice with 1 tablespoon of honey.
  • Apply to underarms and leave on for 30 minutes.
  • Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry.
  • Repeat daily.

4. Potato with Tomato

Tomatoes gently and gradually lighten discolored skin when used regularly over time.

  • Blend potato and tomato to smooth paste. Apply paste to underarms and leave on for 30 minutes or overnight.
  • Rinse with cool water and pat dry.
  • Repeat nightly before bed.

5. Potato with Sugar and Lemon Juice

Sugar exfoliates to detoxify skin while lemon juice gently lightens.

  • Mix 2 tablespoons each of grated potato and lemon juice.
  • Stir in 1 tablespoon sugar.
  • Apply to underarms, massaging gently for 3 minutes.
  • Leave on for 30 minutes then rinse with cool water and pat dry.
  • Repeat every other day.

6. Potato with Milk

Milk cleanses and nourishes the skin while potato lightens discoloration.

  • Grate and puree ½ of a potato and strain through cheesecloth to extract juice.
  • Mix 2 tablespoons each of potato juice and condensed milk.
  • Apply to underarms, massaging gently for 3 minutes.
  • Leave on for 10 minutes then rinse with cool water and pat dry.
  • Repeat daily.

7. Potato with Cucumber Juice

Cucumber gently and gradually lightens discolored skin.

  • Blend 1/4 of a potato and cucumber.
  • Stir in1 tablespoon chickpea flour to make a smooth paste.
  • Apply to underarms and leave on for 15 minutes.
  • Rinse with cool water and pat dry.
  • Repeat daily.

Tips and Precautions:

For best results, follow the advice below when using potato to lighten discolored underarm skin.

  • Potatoes are perfect alternative for lemon as they have mild bleaching properties than lemon.
  • Avoid hair removal creams and shaving.
  • Waxing is the best way to remove underarm hair without causing irritation or skin damage.
  • Shower daily, making sure to scrub underarms to remove dead skin cells and other toxins that cause discoloration.
  • Exfoliate gently.
  • Before starting potato treatments, do a patch test on your arm to find out if you are allergic.
  • Natural home remedies take time, so be patient. Use each method for at least 4 weeks before deciding whether it works for you.
  • If these remedies don’t help, ask your doctor of your discolored underarm skin may be an indication of a more serious health condition like diabetes.

    1. Yes, both of them are effective in treating dark underarms. But it is hard to choose among them because the results may vary from person to person. The remedy which works for me may or may not work for you and vice versa. Because it depends on the skin texture and various other factors. So, we recommend trying any one of them for 1 – 2 months. If it is not working then try another one.

  1. is it effective within 1 week? I only has 1 week to whiten my underarms. I have to use the fastest way to whiten my underarms

  2. You have said that waxing is the best way to remove the unwanted hair in our body. But i think that waxing will make us more irritation. Am i right or wrong. If i am wrong please tell me how to do waxing without any skin damages. Or is there any other way to remove the hair..??
