Home Remedies for Dry Hair

Home Remedies for Dry Hair:

Follow these home remedies to get healthy and shiny hair.

1. Eggs

Eggs contain protein and lecithin, which moisturize, strengthen and condition your hair. Use the whole egg or egg white as per your preference.

Process 1:

  • Beat two eggs until smooth and mix with 6 tablespoons of
  • Stir well until the eggs white dissolve in the water.
  • Apply to hair and leave on 30 minutes.
  • Wash hair with mild shampoo and water.
  • Repeat 3 times a week to get rid of the dry hair.

Process 2:

  • Beat 3 eggs until smooth and mix with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of honey.
  • Apply to scalp and cover with shower cap.
  • Leave on 30 minutes.
  • Rinse hair with mild shampoo and warm water.
  • Repeat 2times a week.

Process 3:

  • Whip 2 eggs and mix with ½ cup of full fat yogurt and 1 ½ tablespoons of almond oil.
  • Massage into scalp and wrap hair in towel or shower cap.
  • Rinse with shampoo and warm water after 30 minutes.
  • Repeat 3 times a week.

2. Avocado and Banana

Avocados moisturize and nourish hair while bananas soften it and prevent split ends.

  • In a blender, mix 1 banana, 1 avocado, and ½ teaspoon almond oil until smooth.
  • Apply on the scalp and hair.
  • Massage into scalp and comb through hair.
  • Cover with shower cap and leave on 30-60 minutes.
  • Wash hair with mild shampoo and conditioner.
  • Repeat once a week to get rid of the dry hair.

 3. Vinegar

Vinegar restores the scalp’s pH balance to ensure hair doesn’t get too oily or too dry. Also try the method below.

Process 1:

  • Keep a travel-size spray-bottle of vinegar in your shower.
  • Spritz a bit onto your hair after washing and conditioning.
  • Repeat 3 times a week

Process 2:

  • Fill the basin with water and stir in ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar.
  • Soak your hair in the water for 10 minutes.
  • Wash hair with shampoo and apply conditioner to get rid of the dryness and dandruff..
  • Repeat 3 times a week.

4. Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise moisturizes and conditions hair and prevents dryness and dandruff.

  • Massage organic or homemade mayonnaise into your scalp and comb it through your hair.
  • Wrap hair in shower cap and leave on 15 minutes.
  • Rinse with water, then rinse with mild shampoo and conditioner.
  • Follow the process regularly.

 5. Essential Oils

Oils like coconut, jojoba, olive, and almond moisturize and nourish hair.

  • Warm your oil of choice slightly ( you can combine 2 oils)
  • Massage into scalp and comb through wet hair.
  • Cover with shower cap and leave on 20 minutes.
  • Rinse with water, then wash with mild shampoo and conditioner.
  • Repeat once a week to prevent dryness.

6. Honey

Honey moisturizes and nourishes hair while protecting the scalp from bacteria that cause dandruff.

  • Mix ½ cup of raw honey with 1 teaspoon of olive oil.
  • Apply on clean, damp hair and comb through.
  • Cover with shower cap and leave on 20 minutes.
  • Rinse with lukewarm water, then use shampoo and conditioner.
  • Repeat at least once a week.
  • Note: You can use vegetable oil instead of olive oil.

 7. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera moisturizes and nourishes hair, forming a protective layer that prevents breakage and brittleness.

  • Melt 1 ½ tablespoons of coconut oil and mix with 4 tablespoons of fresh aloe vera gel or juice and 3 tablespoons of plain Greek yogurt.
  • Apply to scalp and comb through hair.
  • Cover with shower cap and leave on 30 minutes.
  • Rinse with water and repeat once a week.

8. Hot Oil Massage

Hot oil massage increases circulation to promote the growth of strong, healthy hair. It also moisturizes and repairs damage

  • Warm your hair oil and apply to hair.
  • Massage the scalp gently for few minutes and wear shower cap.
  • Leave for 20 minutes.
  • Rinse with mild shampoo and water.
  • Repeat the process regularly.

9. Gelatin Pack

Gelatin is a rich source of protein, which helps lock in moisture and repair damage.

  • Mix 1 tablespoon of gelatin into 1 cup of warm water until completely dissolved.
  • Mix in 1 tablespoon of vinegar and 3 drops of lavender, rosemary, or lemon oil.
  • Apply to hair, massage into scalp, and comb through to tips.
  • Leave on 15 minutes.
  • Rinse with lukewarm water.
  • Repeat at least 3 times a week.

 10. Coconut Oil and Curry Leaves

Moisturizing property of coconut oil and curry leaves nourishes and moisturizes the scalp and hair.

  • Heat 2 tablespoons of coconut oil over medium flame and stir in 6 curry leaves.
  • Let simmer 5 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool.
  • Apply to hair, massaging into scalp and combing through to tips.
  • Cover with warm towel and leave on 30 minutes.
  • Rinse with water to get shinny and brittle less hair.
  • Repeat at least once a week.

 11. Beer Treatment

Beer contains proteins and vitamin B, which moisturize, nourish, and repair dry, damaged hair.

  • Fill a spray bottle with beer.
  • Wash your hair and spritz damp hair with beer.
  • Blow your hair to get rid of the beer smell.
  • Leave on 10 minutes, then rinse with water.
  • Repeat at least once a week.

12. Olive Oil

Olive oil moisturizes hair and helps to get healthy hair.

  • Beat 2 eggs and mix in 2 teaspoons of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice.
  • Apply to hair and scalp and massage for 3 minutes.
  • Rinse with mild shampoo and warm water after 15 minutes.
  • Repeat twice a week.

 13. Proper Hair Hygiene

Many of us think that the more we shampoo our hair, the better it will look. This is false. Using chemical-laden commercial shampoos and hot water on your hair every day strips away natural oils and lead to dryness, brittleness, and breakage. Try shampooing once every 2 days using one of the above methods at least once a week. Select the shampoo which has the pH of 4.5 to 6. Also, choose natural hair care products that don’t contain harsh chemicals.

 Other Tips for Preventing Dry Hair:

In addition to using the above remedies, keep in mind the advice below.

  • Don’t use baby shampoo as it has high PH levels which make hair dry.
  • Dry hair is extra delicate. Massage gently while shampooing and conditioning and comb very gently.
  • Use shampoos and conditioner that contain little or no alcohol. If hair is very dry prefer overnight conditioner to lock moisture in your hair.
  • Excessive combing damages your hair. Comb gently and use a boar bristle brush and do not comb hair when wet.
  • Avoid hot showers because hot water strips away natural oils and dries hair.
  • Avoid blow dryers and hot rollers as they remove the moisture and make hair dry.
  • Keeping your body hydrated helps keep your hair hydrated.
  • Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, especially leafy greens and avocados.
  • Protect your hair from the sun with hats and scarves.
  • Apply oil regularly to prevent dry hair.
  • Trim your hair regularly to prevent split ends.
  • If you swim regularly, wear a swim cap to protect hair from chlorine.

Hello myself 25 years old.m working girl.What natural remedy we try to “daily”nourise our dry hair.it seems they lost there entire moisture till evening.Daily oiling and putting hair mask and shampoo daily is very difficult task.chemical shampoo is also nt good .and by applying herbal shampoo greasy not went away .what to do.maam please help me out.

    1. Dry hair is caused due to less moisture in the hair shafts. You have to try oiling and hair mask methods 2 – 3 times in a week. Avoid washing your hair daily as it can strip off natural oils from the hair which leaves the hair dry. Avoid excess sun exposure and dry weather. Eat nutritious food and drink plenty of water. Use shampoos that contain less chemicals as your herbal shampoos are making your hair greasy.

  2. Hi I am 23 years old I am facing too much of hair loss. That even after doing shampoo my scalp is visible. Earlier also I used to face the hair loss but it was never to this extent I have tried to many remedies even I opted for homeopathic medication too. I didn’t see any result. I want my lost hair back.
