Anybody that smokes will know just how difficult it can be to quit. Even with the best of intentions to kick the habit, nicotine is highly addictive and is hard to fight. These days there are countless people, all over the world, looking for a way to quit and improve their quality of life.

While there are products on the market to help people quit, they are usually expensive and some even advocate vaping – which is just swapping one harmful habit for another. Here then, we have gathered some natural remedies to help you quit smoking.

Licorice

Whenever the nicotine craving hits, it is recommended that you suck on a piece of licorice root. This helps because it imitates the reflexive habit of holding a cigarette, and licorice also contains properties that help to detoxify the body. Over a little time, the taste and the association with holding a cigarette creates a negative, psychological, reaction to tobacco.

Sunflower seeds

Sunflower seeds are excellent for fighting the compulsive need to smoke – especially when going through withdrawal symptoms. Sunflower seeds are best eaten raw, but they can be added to recipes such as flax and sunflower seed bread, salads, or just roasted.

Chamomile

Chamomile infusions can be really useful when you are trying to stop smoking. To make this natural home remedy, mix a teaspoon of chamomile flowers in a cup of boiling water. After letting it brew, long enough for the temperature to cool enough to drink. Chamomile ‘tea’ can be drunk twice a day.

Valerian

Thanks to its soothing properties, Valerian helps combat the smoker’s cravings. It also helps them to relax and get to sleep easier. You can consume it in capsules or as an infusion. To make the infusion, mix 15 grams of the plant’s root in water and let it sit overnight.

Fruit and vegetable juice

Eating plenty of fruit and vegetables doesn’t just help to control the urge to smoke. They also help to cleanse the organs of your body, namely the ones that work to eliminate free radicals and most of the toxins that build up in the body because of smoking.

It is an easy thing to make fruit juice too, with apples and grapes, this can be complemented with carrots, spinach, celery, onion, etc.

Ginger

A proven and effective natural home remedy to control the impulse to smoke is to chew a piece of ginger root. Ginger root is not that attractive to many people because of its spicy flavor, but do keep in mind that it is effective if you stick with it.

Garlic cure

Garlic is known to be very healthy and has cleansing properties. At the same time, it helps in the fight when you are trying to kick the smoking habit. The Garlic Cure consists of eating two raw garlic cloves, on an empty stomach. Then two more cloves and a cup of lemon juice before lunch, then two more cloves before dinner.

This treatment can be hard to get used to, due to the strong flavors, but it does work. People that have low blood pressure, or are taking anticoagulant medication should try another remedy as this would not be suitable for them.

Oats as natural home remedies to quit smoking

Oat water contains properties that benefit the body in many ways, especially when it comes to cleansing the body and boosting health. This natural home remedy, which many people also use to help with weight loss, is excellent for fighting free radicals (which can cause cancer) and eliminating harmful substances that build up in the body due to smoking.

To make this natural remedy, mix two tablespoons of ground oats in a cup of water. Boil this mixture and eat after meals.
