Stress, unbalanced diet, inadequate sleep, vitamin deficiency, weakness and certain medications are some of the factors that cause dark circles. However honey has proven to be a great cure for this problem.

Can Honey helps to Reduce Dark Circles?

Here is how honey can help to combat the problem.

  • The anti-inflammatory and natural bleaching property of honey helps to reduce pigmentation and blemishes.
  • It acts as a great moisturizer.
  • It can safely be used on tender eye skin.
  • It is a power house of antioxidants and essential nutrients.
  • It has anti – microbial and anti – inflammatory properties that lightens the skin by improving the blood circulation.
  • It promotes skin cells growth and helps in the formation of collagen.

How to use Honey for Dark Circles:

1. Raw honey

In this method you can simply apply raw honey on the dark circles or consume in your daily diet.

On dark circles

  • Apply a thin layer of raw and organic honey on the dark circles.
  • Massage for a few minutes and leave for 20 minutes or overnight.
  • Wash off with water.
  • Follow this process regularly.
  • Note 1: You can also mix a pinch of saffron and papaya with honey and apply this on the dark circles. It also helps to treat puffy eyes.
  • Note 2: Adding a pinch of cinnamon to honey can also help.

 In diet

  • Mix 1 tsp of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink on an empty stomach every morning. You can also squeeze the juice of half lemon juice into the water.
  • Replace artificial sweeteners and refined sugar with organic honey.

2. Honey with Egg White and Vitamin E

Honey nourishes, moisturizes and soothes the skin. It is especially effective when mixed with vitamin E and egg white.

  • Ground 1 vitamin E tablet and add 1/2 teaspoon of raw honey and 1egg white.
  • Stir it well and apply this all around the eyes, then wash off with water and dry.
  • Repeat this process regularly.
  • Note: Use vitamin E oil instead of the tablet.

3. Honey with Almond Oil

Process 1:

  • Mix equal quantities of honey and almond oil (or sweet almond oil).
  • Apply this mixture all around the eyes and massage gently for a few minutes.
  • Leave on overnight and wash it off the next morning.
  • Note: You can also add few drops of rosewater.

Process 2:

  • Mash half a banana, add 1 tablespoon of honey and 3 drops of almond oil.
  • Mix it well and apply this paste around the eyes.
  • Leave for 15 – 20 minutes.
  • Massage it gently before washing with lukewarm water.
  • Repeat this process regularly.

4. Honey with Bentonite Clay

  • Mix 1 ½ teaspoons of honey and apple cider vinegar in 1 cup of bentonite clay.
  • Add some water to make a paste.
  • Apply on the dark circles and leave for 15-20 minutes.
  • Then wash off with warm water.
  • Regularize this process.

5. Honey with Banana

Process 1:

  • Mix equal quantities of honey, banana mash and egg white.
  • Apply this on the dark circles and leave for an hour.
  • Repeat regularly.

Process 2:

  • Mash a banana and add 1 tablespoon of honey.
  • Apply this on the dark circles.
  • Wash off with water after 20 minutes.
  • Follow this process regularly.
  • Note: Add mashed avocado for effective results.

6. Honey with Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is a natural bleaching agent that helps to remove dark circles.

Process 1:

  • Mix equal quantities of fresh lemon juice and honey.
  • Apply this mixture under the eyes and leave for a few minutes.
  • Wash it off with water and pat the skin dry.
  • Repeat regularly.

Process 2:

  • Mix a pinch of turmeric powder, 1 tablespoon of honey and 4 drops of fresh lemon juice.
  • Apply this mixture on dark circles and massage it gently for 2 minutes with wet fingertips.
  • Let it dry and then wash with water.
  • Continue doing this process regularly.
  • Note: If you have sensitive skin, then replace lemon juice with fresh orange juice.

7. Honey with Milk

  • Mix 1 teaspoon each of raw honey and warm milk.
  • Apply this paste on the dark circles.
  • Leave for 15 – 20 minutes then wash off with water.
  • Pat the skin dry and repeat regularly.

8. Honey with Potato

This pack acts as a natural bleaching agent and reduces dark circles by giving a cooling effect, it also reduces irritation.

Process 1:

  • Grate 1 raw potato and soak in iced water for about 5 minutes.
  • Strain the water and add 1 teaspoon of raw honey.
  • Lie down and apply this mixture on closed eyes.
  • Leave on for 10 minutes and wash your eyes with the saved potato water.

Process 2:

  • Mix 1 tablespoon each of olive oil and honey and grated potato.
  • Apply on the dark circles.
  • Wash it off with warm water after 30 – 35 minutes.
  • Apply every alternate day before going to bed.

Process 3:

  • Mix 1 teaspoon each of potato paste and raw honey.
  • Apply this mixture on under the eyes and leave for 15 minutes.
  • Repeat this process regularly.

9. Honey with Orange Juice and Glycerin

Process 1:

  • Mix 1 teaspoon each of raw honey, orange juice and glycerin.
  • Apply this on the dark circles and leave on for 10 minutes.
  • Wash it off with water.
  • Repeat this process 3 times a week.

Process 2:

  • Mix 1 tablespoon of organic honey, 3 tablespoons of orange juice and some gram flour.
  • Refrigerate for a few minutes and apply around the eyes.

10. Honey with Tomato Juice

Honey helps to lock in moisture and tomato has an antioxidant compound called lycopene that helps to reduce the dark circles.

  • Mix 1 teaspoon each of raw honey and fresh tomato juice.
  • Apply on the dark circles and massage gently for a few minutes.
  • Leave for 10 minutes then rinse with water.
  • Repeat this process twice a day.

11. Honey with Grape Juice and Mango Pulp

  • Mix equal quantities of organic honey, mango pulp and grape juice.
  • Spread this mixture around the eyes and wait for 5 – 10 minutes.
  • Wash with water and repeat the same process regularly.

12. Honey with Yogurt

  • Mix 1 teaspoon each of honey and yogurt and spread this on the dark circles.
  • Wait for 20 – 25 minutes then wash off with lukewarm water.
  • Repeat the same process regularly.

13. Honey and Mint Eye Mask

Mint has anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and cooling properties which refreshes the tired eyes and also minimizes the dark circles.

Process 1:

  • Crush a handful of mint leaves then add 1 tablespoon of honey.
  • Stir it well and apply around the eyes.
  • Leave for 15 – 20 minutes then wash with cold water.
  • Repeat every night before bed.

Process 2:

  • Blend half tomato, few mint leaves and 1 teaspoon of honey.
  • Apply under the eyes with cotton pad and wash off after 15 – 20 minutes.
  • Repeat this process regularly.

14. Honey with Turmeric

The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric lightens dark skin.

  • Mix 1 tablespoon each of raw honey and turmeric powder.
  • Spread this mixture under the eyes and massage gently.
  • Leave for a few minutes and rinse off with water.
  • Continue doing this process regularly.
  • Note: You can add raw milk for added benefits.

15. Honey with Cucumber Juice

Cucumber has natural soothing and refreshing properties.

  • Mix 1 teaspoon of cucumber juice in 2 teaspoons of organic honey.
  • Apply on dark circles and leave on for a few minutes.
  • Wash it off with water.
  • Follow this process 3 times a week.
  • Note: You can add 3 drops of almond oil to above mixture.

16. Honey with Coconut Oil, Turmeric and Chickpea Flour

  • Mix 1/2 teaspoon of honey, 2 teaspoons of turmeric powder, 2 tablespoons of chickpea flour, 1 teaspoon of whole milk, 1 teaspoon of coconut oil (warmed to liquefy) and a few drops of lemon juice to make a runny paste.
  • Apply on the dark circles and leave for 15-20 minutes.
  • Wipe off with a clean, damp cloth, then dry the area.
  • Follow this process regularly.

17. Honey with Olive Oil and Glycerin

  • Mix 1 teaspoon of honey, olive oil and glycerin together and apply under the eyes.
  • Massage gently for 2 minutes then leave for few minutes.
  • Wash it off with water and pat the skin dry.
  • Follow this process regularly.

18. Honey with Lemon Juice, Yogurt and Vitamin E

  • Mix small amounts of honey, lemon juice, yogurt and vitamin E together.
  • Apply around the dark circles.
  • Leave for 15 minutes then wash off with water.
  • Pat the skin dry and repeat regularly.

19. Honey with Cucumber and Aloe Vera

  • Mix 1 teaspoon of grated cucumber, 1/2 teaspoon each of organic honey and aloe vera gel.
  • Stir it well and apply this mixture all over the eyes.
  • Wash off with cold water after 20 minutes.
  • Repeat daily.

20. Honey with Powdered Milk

  • Add 1 teaspoon of milk powder in 1 teaspoon of honey.
  • Stir it well and apply on the dark circles.
  • Let it dry for 20 minutes then rinse off with water.
  • Do this process regularly.

21. Honey with Carrots

Carrot contains vitamin A, which stimulates the collagen production.

Process 1:

  • Cut a carrot into fine pieces and boil in water for a few minutes.
  • Blend with honey to make a fine paste and spread around the eyes for 30 minutes.
  • Wash it off with lukewarm water and re – apply this paste regularly.

Process 2:

  • Mix equal quantities of honey, carrot juice and tomato pulp.
  • Apply this mixture around the eyes.
  • Let on for 15 minutes then wash with clean water.
  • Repeat daily.

22. Honey with Rosewater and Vitamin E Oil

Rose water has a natural cooling and refreshing effect. It helps to soothe and revitalize skin. Vitamin E oil nourishes the delicate skin around eyes.

  • Mix 1 tablespoon each of honey and rose water with 2 to 3 drops of vitamin E oil.
  • Apply the mixture around eyes and gently massage for 2 – 3 minutes.
  • Let it dry then wash with water.
  • Follow this method daily.

23. Honey with Potato and Chamomile Oil

Potato has a bleaching property and the essential compounds in chamomile oil help to fight pigmentation around the eyes.

  • Mix 1 tablespoon each of raw honey and potato juice with 2 drops of chamomile essential oil and stir well.
  • Apply around the eyes and massage with finger tips using a gentle circular motion.
  • Leave to dry then wash with water.
  • Follow this method every day.

24. Honey with Apple and Cinnamon

Tannic acid, vitamin C and B in apples and essential oils of cinnamon help to nourish and lighten the skin.

  • Mash some ripe apple and mix with 1 tablespoon of honey and a pinch of organic cinnamon powder.
  • Apply around the eyes and leave for 10 minutes.
  • Wash with lukewarm water and apply a light under eye cream.
  • Follow the method everyday.

25. Honey with Coconut Oil and Flax Oil

The essential fatty acids of coconut oil and rich moisturizing property of flax oil works together to nourish sensitive under eye skin.

  • Mix equal quantities of honey, coconut oil and flax oil.
  • Massage around the eyes and leave for 10 minutes, then wash off with clean water.
  • Repeat the process everyday.

26. Honey and Essential Oil Mix

The rich blend of essential oils helps to nourish and moisturize under eye skin.

  • Mix 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of honey, 4 drops of almond oil, 2 drops of sesame oil and 2 drops of chamomile oil.
  • Apply this under the eyes and gently massage. Leave for 10-15 minutes.
  • Wash with warm water and dry the eye areas gently.
  • Follow this method three times a week.

27. Honey with Milk Cream and Saffron

The blend of saffron and milk cream deeply nourishes the skin to fade away blemishes.

  • Mix 1 tablespoon of boiled milk with 1 saffron strand, 1 teaspoon of cream and 1 teaspoon of honey.
  • Gently massage under the eyes for 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Leave for 10 minutes and gently clean with cool water.
  • Follow this method everyday.

28. Honey with Raw Milk

The mixture of raw milk and lemon is a wonderful remedy for dark circles and wrinkles.

  • Mix a few drops of lemon juice in 1 tablespoon of raw milk until the milk curdles.
  • Mix in 1 tablespoon of honey.
  • Gently massage the skin around the eyes for 4 minutes, then leave for 10 minutes.
  • Wash with water and repeat this process everyday.

29. Honey with Sandalwood Powder and Olive Oil Mask

Sandalwood powder removes skin blemishes and dark circles.

  • Mix 1 tablespoon of pure sandalwood powder, 1 teaspoon of honey, 4 drops of olive oil and some rosewater/clean water to make a thick paste.
  • Apply around the eyes and leave for 10 minutes.
  • Wash with water.
  • Follow this remedy everyday.
  • You can also replace sandalwood paste with fuller’s earth.

30. Honey with Almond

The essential oil, vitamins, nutrients, fatty acids and antioxidants of almond and milk work well to remove dark circles.

Process 1:

  • Soak 4 to 6 almonds overnight in water.
  • Grind the soaked almonds with 1 teaspoon of raw honey and milk.
  • Apply around the eyes and leave for 10 minutes.
  • Massage the skin with wet finger tips before washing with water.
  • Do this process daily.

Process 2:

  • Soak 2 almonds in 1 tablespoon of milk for a few hours, then add 4 drops of lime juice and 1 teaspoon of honey.
  • Apply this mixture around the eyes and wash off with water after an hour.
  • Note: You can use almond powder instead of soaked almonds.

Tips and Precautions:

Follow these tips and precautions to get great results with no side effects.

  • For best result use raw organic honey.
  • You can also use manuka honey instead of normal honey.
  • Never apply in the eyes or too close to eyes, as it may cause damage. Be sure to wash out with water if you get any in your eyes.
  • You can also use honey based creams like manuka honey night revival cream or active manuka honey eye cream, etc.
  • Do not apply too much pressure when massaging.
  • Adequate sleep, exercise, intake of fresh vegetables and fruits nourishes the entire body and fights dark circles.
  • Do not leave any pack around eyes for more than 15 minutes.
  • Direct expose to the sun can also cause dark circles. Do not forget to apply sunscreen lotion around the eyes and wear sunglasses.
  • Mix 2 teaspoons of vitamin C supplement or powder, 2 tablespoons of organic honey in a glass of water and consume.
  • Avoid chemical laden eye makeup to conceal dark circles as they can strip the natural skin moisture and can further aggravate the problem. Instead, go for light organic products and always remember to gently remove your makeup with a mild cleanser before going to bed.

    1. Try any method mentioned in the above article. Apart from that, reduce salt intake, drink plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated, increase vitamin E, C, B and D content in your daily food, don’t rub the skin under the eyes, reduce stress levels and get enough sleep.

  2. Can I use cold pressed coconut oil with raw honey to make an eye mask? Do I have to remove it with water or it can stay overnight? After removing with water can I apply my usual eye cream immediately?

    1. Ya sure can! If you’re weary about the method, try it on a test subject such as a dog, cat, mouse, small child between the ages of 48 months and 120 months but no more than 129 months and or a large child between the age of 48 months and 122 months but no more than 132 month!.
